Fruits of our Labor

Well here is the latest of our garden, we have harvested about 3 cucumbers and 1 tomato. Not bad I guess for the past 2 weeks weather of being in the 100's. We were a cool 96 today and we had a good thunderstorm this morning. I can hear thunder in the distance and we may get some more much needed rain. On a sad note, my dad went into the hospital on Sunday with a case of Pneumonia. He may get released tomorrow (Wed). My mom has been staying with us in the meantime and talk about a big adjustment there. I cut the apron strings years ago, but I may dig them up and make a hangman's noose for either me or her. :0P

Yummy for my tummy....

So with this HOT weather (103F) we've been eating alot of watermelon. mmmmmmmmmm. Recollections of my childhood past. I get my watermelons from the street vendor(s) parked alongside off Cape Rd. A friendly sort of chap. I made it a point Tues. just to stop and tell him that the last one I bought from him was "delish". It was super sweet. He got them from the good ole USA down in Floresvilles south of San Antonio. My nephew Avery is a chow hound for watermelons. I watched him Tues. and when my sis-in-law picked him up I noticed she had a watermelon for him. :0) So if you're craving something cool & sweet, go out and buy a watermelon! 4th of July is coming up!, and check out http://www.watermelon.org/ for cool recipes and carving instructions for special occasions. BTW this weekend in Luling, TX is the Watermelon Thump, can't wait. mmmmmmm watermelon. ssssssssslurp! :0P

YIKES!!

So a couple of days ago, I walked outside my house and saw a snake. It was blk & red with yellow stripes. Now I know that the King Snake looks similiar and so I took a stick and started poking at it. All this time I kept wondering if it was a king snake or coral snake (venomous). Just googled it and YIKES it was a coral snake. It was small about 18" and it slithered away into my yard. Never it my early years and living in "town" did we come across any wild critters. I have seen deer, hawks, vultures, roadrunners, foxes, you name it and all in our neighborhood and property. We've had scorpions in our house. If the heat doesn't kill me, Nature will. Say a prayer for me plz.

Garden Update

Well I thought I'd post an update to how our garden is doing. First off, with it being so hot, Mark has installed an drip irrigation system. We can only tolerate the heat until late morning and then it's "head for indoors plz". It's 2157 and the temperature is 97 deg. Kaz runs outside to do his biz and then scurries indoors just as quik. We're long due for some rain but it seems it always rains elsewhere but not here. Back to the garden, we have added some pumpkins for Halloween. We have tons of blossoms on our cantaloupe and cukes plants and one cuke has emerged. It's about 6" long. We have tomatoes, but don't know how the heat will affect there growth.

HOTTER THAN. . . . . . .

I don't really know what it's like but i'm sure it's like being in Texas. It's 0655 and it's already 79 degrees. Yesterday it reached 103 deg. in town but cooled off to a balmy 98 deg. at our house. Given that and the bugs, I stick to inside alot. I don't remember it being like this as a kid growing up here. We spent tons of time outdoors playing. For those living up "North", I would Gladly trade you places. Florida & Alabama have nothing compared to the heat here. First chance we get, think we'll move up North. :0)

Isn't She the most cutest kid?

I have bragging rights of course since I'm her grandma. Thx to a webcam we can see our lil' girl anytime she's awake. It'll be fun to talk to her someday too. Only wish we could hold & hug her. sniff, sniff.

My sincerest apologies.....

.......to all bedbugs out there. It appears we may Not have bedbugs but some other nasty critters eating us up. My dear husband deducted this when he noticed the local deer with some kind of bugs on them. This heat (91) may be a major contributor for them around here. So we're going to have to take some drastic measures to snuff out these critters. Morgan wasn't getting bit and he doesn't spend any time outdoors either. I may have to stop line drying my clothes also until we can get a handle on this problem. Meanwhile more may follow.
