CPT Paul W. Pena

The reason I'm writing about Paul Pena is that his death is the first one ever that I can remember that has impacted my sleepy little town of San Marcos. Here is a San Marcos Native who bravely served and died for his country in Afghanistan by a IED. Today around 1:30 p.m. his remains arrived in San Marcos escorted by local law enforcement and a veteran motorcycle group. People lined up on both sides of LBJ dr. to honor Our fallen hero. We go about our daily lives not giving any thought to all those men and women in our armed forces who are living their lives in danger. Plz take a moment to give thanks and pray for their safety. Thank you.

belated Happy New Year!!

Yup it's been awhile that I've written and I just wanted to quickly update my blog. We went to Pennsyvania for Christmas and met up with our granddaughter and her parents (:0)
We then followed them home to Wisconsin and spent the New Year with them and stayed until the 2nd to help our Summer celebrate her 1st Birthday!! It went by quick and she's a hoot! We love her dearly and really miss terribly. And I'm making some progress on my new year's resolutions.

Everything's bigger in Texas

Well due to the last time's post, that's why I'm writing this one. Just checked myself out in the mirror and I Didn't like what I saw. I try to watch what I'm eating but sometimes something sneaks in that I'm not supposed to eat. Or I don't eat "everything in moderation". My fault. I knew that coming "home" wasn't going to be easy because, Texas barbeque and mexican food aren't anywhere on the food pyramid of good eating. Fat is where it's at around here and I'm not talking about the people. There must be a reason why Fat and Flavor start with the same alphabet letter and one without the other can't be. Sacrifice the flavor by taking out the fat. But I need to feel better about my appearance and so I need to make changes. Slowly.. I don't want to go into shock.

Can there be too much of a good thing?

Honestly, can this be a real question? So sad it's true. My DD sent me an email for the 12 days of Christmas at Whataburger, a local favorite and we have been going there almost every other day for their "freebie" of the day. I'm not Compulsive, Cheap yes. I'd like to think myself frugal and during these hard times, I would like to thank all those businesses who put out all those great offers! My sister Linda, calls me the coupon queen. I invited her out yesterday for some shopping and sister-time. We "hook" up meeting at the HEB parking lot and informs me that after a quick stop at Panda Express for lunch we're heading for San Antonio. After a quick misquided run to find the place she wanted to go we stopped at Beall's dept store for some last minute Christmas shopping. Hadn't a clue what to get my mother, we were looking at the ladies sleepwear where of course we always check out the clearance rack. Where we found a lovely frock coat and nightgown set clearanced at $16.00. We look around some more and I find a nice blouse to go with my new pants. Well we go to check out and my sleepwear purchase came out to $7.50! What joy!! My sister was totally upset at my good fortune. She had to settle for a Beall's giftcard. When you have the gift well what can I say? .......:0)
We have been blessed this past year and hope that Everyone will be also.

Waist not, want not

It's going to be a good day. I was actually able to zip up my pants today. Have to wear long pants because it's a balmy 27 degrees. We were supposed to get snow yesterday but.... false alarm. Excuse me we have to cut this short going out to Breakfast :0)lol

Short changed

So, I was at Hobby Lobby today and picked up a couple of things and while I was checking out, I did my good deed for today and passed a 40% coupon to the lady behind me.:0)
Also while at the register I spotted the book on the guy who came with the idea of Hobby Lobby, the name escapes me at the time. Anyhow it read that with only $600 he started the business. Long story short, why can't "I" come up with some new and great idea that will make me rich? This was not the first time I've asked myself that.
Probably because everything has been done before, Yeah, that's it. Everything is alright with the world again.

Behold, mine house is a house of order.......

OK so it looks much more like the image but I think my New Year's resolution will be to tackle that phenomenal task of ridding myself of all the "treasures" that we have collected in 29 yrs. of marriage. How did we manage it while we were moving around on various PCS's while in the USCG? We are right now in the midst of remodeling our master bedroom & bath so things are a little of out of place but my excuses for not setting our house in order will soon come to an end and I will have to get organized. I don't want to recommended for the TV Show "Hoarders" though Mark would be an excellent candidate since his favorite word is, if there is such a word, mandovillans (sp?), bits and pieces that may or may not someday become useful again. 'Cause you never know when or if you'll need that burnt out light bulb or rusty nail or screw again. He evens hangs on to the spark plugs that he replaces. Why? Will they become new again sitting around on the workbench until next time they need replacing?
In all fairness I have my share of junk lying around with hopes of starting or finishing a project. We all have a junk drawer, but we have two and they are not small. Mark says I like to collect pens, pencils etc. Then when he needs one they don't work or are sharpened. Go figure. Anyway here's to all New Year's Day resolutions and may they come to light. :0
