Tipping the Scales

Well, with summer coming and all that hot weather and the thought of possibly donning a swimsuit. I decided to cut back on my eating and "try" to lose some unwanted pounds. We even had to put Kaz on a diet. He's tipping the scales at 22 lbs. and the vet doesn't want him to get feline diabetes. So he's on a special dry food. It's true, it's expensive to diet. An 8 lb. bag of Purine One OM costs $24.00! I don't even like to look at myself in the mirror, in my birthday suit because I want to return it!!! :0) You know "monsters vs aliens"? The blue guy with one eye, yup that's me. ;0) So I will try to update on my progress Ok? Wish me luck!!

"Anyone can Cook"

If anyone has seen Ratatouille then you're familiar with what Gasteau said "What do I always say? Anyone can cook". It has always amazed me when I hear on TV or when listening in on a conversation when someone (especially females) say, I can't cook. I can't even boil water. How is that possible? If you can read, anyone can cook! I learned to cook when I was about 13 yrs old. By watching my mom in the kitchen. In the hispanic culture, the girls were expected to "help" out in the kitchen with fixing the family meals. Then when I got married, I received my first cookbook (pix). I still have that very same cookbook, dirty, binding coming apart but still use to this day. In fact, I made an apple crisp for dessert tonite from it. That Betty Crocker sure knows how to cook. I gave my daughter a copy of it when she got married and I'm sure she must use it once in a while. Now our daughter did NOT help out much in the kitchen mainly because she had extra curricular activities after school like band practice but now she's a very good cook. She learns from the best.... no, not me but from the likes like Alton Brown, Paula Deen, Giada DeLaurentis to name a few. So girls! Stop making excuses and get in there, and whip me up something to eat... I'm hungry!!

HAPPY EASTER Y'ALL!!

Ok,Ok,OK.... for decades I have prepared a "traditional" Easter dinner and all the fixings. Ham, funeral potatoes, green beans, etc. This year we're heading out for my sister's house for Easter and the menu is, GASP! Hamburgers and Hotdogs!! What the H....
I can't tell you the disappointment I feel. Plus on the added side, holidays have always been for family but she's going on to have some friends over. Because we were military, we weren't lucky to have family around so we invited their friends over who were miles away from their families. But I thought living back in TX it would just be family well... Maybe if my Dad was still around.. I should just suck it up and fix a ham for later at home. :0)

?

Why is it that my best ideas for a blog are only when I'm away from my computer? Then, silly me try to make a mental note to remember my ideas for the next time on my computer and they get lost in the vast universe called my brain.
Call it what you will, CRS (Can't remember S...), Old-Timers, or whatever, it's annoying. Maybe I should carry around a tape recorder, or better yet a pencil and pad. I know I've lost some good ideas because I feel it in my bones.

ok,ok,ok, I remembered something!! I was watching "House", one of my many favs, and it was about a woman who LOVED to blog. I mean, she wrote about everything including her sex life. Anyhow, honestly, how much should we say about ourselves? Does everyone need to know about our personal lives? Should we take into consideration the feelings of the persons we're writing about? I know, I know, 20 yrs from now, my granddaughter won't give a hoot about her mom writing about her "accident" at Sweet Tomatoes (or will she?) Sorry Karen, but sometimes you push the envelope a little...

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

So this afternoon I caught the last 30 minutes of Armageddon with Bruce Willis, Ben Affleck on T.V. Oh my gosh, this movie moved me to tears again. Mark & I went to see this on the "big screen" when it first came out late 90's. Then I turned the channel to see "Philadephia" with Tom Hanks and Antonio Banderas. I have to admit that Antonio makes a hot homosexual.rrrr. Anyhow the ending to this movie is super sad also and it gets me teary-eyed again!. Plus the soundtrack is outstanding and Neil Young's Philadephia is haunting and beautiful. why do I have to watch sappy movies because..... I like them. :0)

CPT Paul W. Pena

The reason I'm writing about Paul Pena is that his death is the first one ever that I can remember that has impacted my sleepy little town of San Marcos. Here is a San Marcos Native who bravely served and died for his country in Afghanistan by a IED. Today around 1:30 p.m. his remains arrived in San Marcos escorted by local law enforcement and a veteran motorcycle group. People lined up on both sides of LBJ dr. to honor Our fallen hero. We go about our daily lives not giving any thought to all those men and women in our armed forces who are living their lives in danger. Plz take a moment to give thanks and pray for their safety. Thank you.

belated Happy New Year!!

Yup it's been awhile that I've written and I just wanted to quickly update my blog. We went to Pennsyvania for Christmas and met up with our granddaughter and her parents (:0)
We then followed them home to Wisconsin and spent the New Year with them and stayed until the 2nd to help our Summer celebrate her 1st Birthday!! It went by quick and she's a hoot! We love her dearly and really miss terribly. And I'm making some progress on my new year's resolutions.
